It isn’t easy to be true to ourselves. I know this first-hand. It seems everyone has an opinion as to how we should behave, what we should think and who we ought to be. Sometimes these opinions are loud and obvious, but more often than not they’re subtle, yet relentless. Think about it; the music we listen to, the movies we see, the experiences we pursue, the friends we keep… they all play a part in shaping who we are, and can therefore also say something about the person that we want to be known as. I mean, do we really believe that our true self is valuable and worth discovering anymore?

I’d love to know what you think… Enjoy the vid!

  1. Learning to be yourself is difficult to do. For some, its natural, birthed from strong family relationships, good education, security, healthy self esteem and an awareness and pursuit of what is truly meaningful in this life. For others, I have seen people battle with these things first before they can even seen the freedom of being their true self. Thanks for bringing the ‘dream’, the ‘goal’ and for the achieve-ability of your convictions Brenton, for they bring hope to those unsure and disheartened. For some people, they’re true self has been sullied so much lies, by hurts and by hiding. To be considered enough….wow, what a thought. It poses such a contradiction to so many of the louder messages shouted by the world daily at every moment but yet I believe still profoundly true. Thanks for the reminder.

    • Well said Shannon! Absolutely agree with you… it is incredibly difficult to peel back the layers of unfortunate/difficult experiences and live in the freedom of the true-self. Never easy, but well worth the effort! The more we tell and BE the ‘alternative story’, the greater chance others have to encounter the difference. The wisdom of each other is a powerful thing hey ๐Ÿ™‚
